The Great Pacific Garbage Patch

The pollution of the oceans is something terrible, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is estimated to be more than 100 million kilos of floating plastic, covering an area 3 times the size of France. Every day thousands of kilos entering the oceans by rivers around the world.

10 years ago, a young man, Boyan Slat, had the idea how to clean the garbage patch by using a large floating net-like barrier three meters deep that forms a large U shape which is slowly towed by two ships. He found investors for his plan and started The Ocean Cleanup ...

Their goal is to reduce the garbage in the oceans by 90%.

Also they designed 'Interceptors' for the most polluting rivers, trying to prevent 80% of the pollution to reach the oceans. On this youtube video you see the trial version on the Guatemala river

This video shows the enthusiasm and passion of some employees and what they achieved in 2022. I follow them on facebook and on their website you can read all about them: www.theoceancleanup.com

We can contribute a bit ourselves by using less plastic packaging, using innovating products instead, in a next post I will highlight a few of those!
